Repeat After Me... Yes I Do Need A Serum!

I have a confession to make… don’t judge me for this. We all make mistakes.

For years, I didn’t use a serum as a daily routine. I thought it was just one of those skincare tips that you only needed if you are really looking to target a concern. I thought I was “too young” and “not ready yet.”

I have been using serums on clients for years. I have been kicking myself for the past 3 months for not starting a serum earlier.

Turns out, serums are the best little add on for your skincare routine. Serums are the workhorse for your routine. Keep Reading to learn why:

Emily, What Even Is A Serum?

A serum is a lightweight cream/liquid packed full of active ingredients designed to target a specific skincare concern, like wrinkles, dehydration or dark spots.

With serums being lightweight, it helps the ingredients work even better and much quicker compared to other products on the market. Also this makes it easier for the product to penetrate into your skin.

Why Do You Need A Serum?

I know you’re thinking “Why would I pay so much for a product that my moisturizer has the same ingredients.” “It’s just a gimmick to get more money.”

A serum contains a much higher concentration of antioxidants and targeting ingredients than any moisturizer can. You see when you pick only a moisturizer, the moisturizer is made up of so many different ingredients; from emollients, skin hydrators, and heavier creams/oils to create a thicker product whereas, serums are targeting specifically.

Originally when I chose a moisturizer, I always made sure it had plenty of hydrating ingredients. If I got my fix from a moisturizer, I reasoned, I didn’t have to buy a hydrating serum, too. Why pay twice for the same thing? Am I right? Well, think about this, serums contain high amounts of active ingredients and not much else that the ingredients over take the formula, in a good way. That is why it is recommended to use a serum AND a moisturizer. Yes, even if you have oily skin, but we will save that for a different post.
